【JASC日記】8月6日

Today was the memorial day for the bombing of Hiroshima.

The Hiroshima staff members did a great job preparing the Japadeles and the Amedeles in order to have preliminary knowledge about the topic for the day. During the bus ride0 from Niigata to Shiga, these delegates presented information on the bombings which everyone listened to. They also gave a presentation today  before the lecture by former JASC Alumni, Professor Katsuya Kodama. The lecture, was about a nuclear free world and was given at Ritsumeikan University Kinugasa Campus. After the lecture, we went to the Kyoto Museum of World Peace. It was composed of three different floors. The B1 floor emphasized life in Japan during World War II. It displayed facts, pictures and a model of a Japanese household. The 1st floor was a temporary exhibition about nuclear weapons and also the responsibility for the war. The 2nd floor had an art exhibition along with other peace messages. After eating a delicious bento box, we started special topics about what the Amedeles and the Japadeles felt about the whole day and the Hiroshima presentations. We had interesting opinions about nuclear weapons becoming deterrents and the differences of history education between the States and Japan. Later on, we worked in our RT times. Being in the Globalization RT, we created a framework of what we would be presenting for the Kyoto Forum. To conclude the day, each RT had their own stipend dinner in Kyoto City, and our RT had tasty Ramen with a green tea based dessert. Some of the delegates also used their free time to explore the local area.
